Former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan has voiced strong criticism of Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) batting performance and decision-making following their seven-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). CSK managed only 127/7 in their allotted 20 overs, a total that Zaheer described as "seven is too low" for a team of CSK's caliber.
Zaheer's Criticism of CSK's Batting Approach
Speaking on a cricket analysis show, Zaheer expressed disappointment with CSK's conservative batting strategy. He noted that the team failed to accelerate at crucial stages, leaving them with a below-par score. "Seven is too low. You have to assess the situation and take risks. They played too safe, and that cost them," Zaheer remarked.
Key Moments in the Match
CSK's innings featured a slow start, with openers struggling to find boundaries. The middle order failed to capitalize on a platform, and the team lost wickets at regular intervals. In response, GT chased down the target with ease, thanks to a composed knock from their top order. Zaheer pointed out that CSK's bowlers did well to restrict GT initially, but the low total made their task too easy.
Questions Over Team Selection and Tactics
Zaheer also questioned CSK's team selection and tactical decisions. He highlighted the absence of a power-hitter in the middle order and the over-reliance on a few players. "You need to have a balanced squad. With the kind of depth they have, they should have posted at least 160," he added.
The loss has put CSK under pressure in the IPL standings, and Zaheer believes the team management needs to address these issues quickly. "They have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a better plan. The tournament is too competitive to have such lapses," he concluded.
CSK fans will hope for a turnaround in their next match, but Zaheer's comments have sparked a debate about the team's strategy in the ongoing season.
