In a tragic incident near Kharar, two youths lost their lives after a speeding car collided with their motorcycle. The accident took place late on Saturday night on the Kharar-Banur road, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Accident
According to the police, the victims were identified as 22-year-old Ravi Kumar and 21-year-old Amanpreet Singh, both residents of a nearby village. They were returning home after attending a function when a speeding car, reportedly driven by a youth, rammed into their motorcycle from behind. The impact was so severe that both were thrown off the bike and sustained critical injuries.
Passersby rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. The car driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Police have impounded the car and launched a manhunt to trace the driver.
Police Investigation Underway
Station House Officer (SHO) of Kharar police station, Inspector Gurdeep Singh, stated that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligence and rash driving. “We are examining the car’s registration details and reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the accused,” he said.
The incident has sparked anger among the locals, who demanded strict action against the driver. They also highlighted the issue of rash driving on the stretch, which has been a recurring problem. The bodies have been handed over to the families after post-mortem examination.
