Carrick Advises Manchester United to Take Time on Permanent Manager Appointment
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has emphasized that the club should not rush into appointing a permanent manager, stating that his own role remains unchanged as he continues to lead the team through the season. Carrick took over as interim boss in January following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, tasked with guiding the club until the campaign concludes.
Steady Progress Under Carrick's Leadership
The former midfielder has overseen an impressive run of form, securing three consecutive victories against top-tier opponents Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham. This winning streak has propelled Manchester United into fourth place in the Premier League standings, reigniting hopes for a strong finish to the season.
Ahead of Saturday's crucial match against Tottenham, the 44-year-old addressed the media, highlighting the importance of a measured approach to the managerial decision. "Nothing's changed, no, to be honest. It's not going to change what I do, or how I feel about it. I think I'm fully aware of the role I'm doing here and the responsibility I've got," Carrick told reporters.
Focus on Long-Term Success Beyond the Season
Carrick stressed that the club's priority should be sustained success, regardless of who occupies the managerial position. "We want to be successful. I want the club to be successful beyond the end of the season. If that's me, if that's somebody else at this stage, I can't control that and we'll see what happens," he added.
Reflecting on recent managerial appointments that have not yielded desired results, Carrick cautioned against impulsive decisions. "If they have changed that, there's something wrong. It can't be so knee-jerk either way, whether it's really good or whether there's a few issues we need to solve. It's steady progress, really," he explained.
Carrick's Appointment and Enjoyment of the Role
Carrick was selected to lead the team for the remainder of the season after Manchester United also considered former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and ex-striker Ruud van Nistelrooy for the caretaker role. Having spent 12 years as a player at Old Trafford, Carrick expressed his deep connection to the club and enjoyment of his current responsibilities.
"I'm loving what I'm doing. I'm here, you know. I feel at home here but I fully understand the situation, so I'm not getting too carried away," Carrick stated, acknowledging the temporary nature of his position while remaining committed to the team's performance.
As Manchester United navigates this transitional period, Carrick's steady hand and focus on gradual improvement provide a stabilizing influence, with the club's leadership now faced with a critical decision regarding its long-term managerial direction.
