Liverpool's Alexander Isak Out for 2 Months After 'Reckless' Van de Ven Tackle, Says Arne Slot
Isak's Broken Ankle from Van de Ven Tackle Ruled Reckless by Slot

Liverpool have been dealt a severe blow as their star striker Alexander Isak is set to miss the next two months of action due to a serious injury sustained from a tackle deemed 'reckless' by manager Arne Slot.

Slot Slams 'Reckless' Challenge as Isak's Injury Confirmed

The incident occurred during Liverpool's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur last week. Just moments after Isak had scored to put Liverpool 1-0 ahead, Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven slid in, trapping the striker's shooting foot. The aftermath revealed a broken ankle and fibula for the Swedish international.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot did not mince words when addressing the tackle. He explicitly contrasted it with another controversial incident in the same match involving Xavi Simons. "This was, for me, a reckless challenge," Slot stated. "I've said a lot about the tackle of Xavi Simons... which for me was completely unintentional. I don't think you will ever get an injury out of a tackle like that. But the tackle of van de Ven, if you make a tackle like that 10 times, 10 times there is a serious chance the player gets a serious injury."

A Snake-Bitten Season for Liverpool's Record Signing

This injury compounds a frustrating debut season at Anfield for Alexander Isak. The £125 million signing from Newcastle United has managed only two Premier League goals so far, with his integration hampered by a groin injury in October. Slot acknowledged the player's difficult period, explaining the challenges of adapting without a proper pre-season.

"It's been a really challenging and difficult period for him," Slot said. "Usually when you join a new club — he was very excited as well — you want to show all the qualities you have but that was simply impossible. Maybe no one understands but if you haven't trained on a serious level for three or four months with the team and you are playing in this league you have to be on top of your game."

Major Setback for Liverpool's Attacking Plans

The timing of the injury is particularly cruel for both player and club. Slot revealed that Isak was just beginning to hit his stride, showing flashes of the form that made him a standout at Newcastle. "We all knew it would take him time and that's why he is so unlucky he is now injured because we all saw with his goal against West Ham and with this goal against Tottenham he gets closer and closer to the player he was last season," the manager added.

With Isak now sidelined until at least late February, Liverpool's attacking options are significantly depleted. The club must navigate a busy festive and winter schedule without their marquee summer signing, turning a season of high expectation into one of resilience and adaptation.
