Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Federico Valverde’s situation at Real Madrid after the midfielder’s recent dressing-room altercation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni intensified scrutiny around unrest inside the Spanish club. Valverde remains one of the most highly regarded midfielders in world football and, while Real Madrid are still reluctant to lose key players, the growing instability behind the scenes at the Bernabéu has alerted several European giants, with United now emerging among the clubs keeping close tabs on developments.
Valverde’s altercation with Tchouaméni sparked wider questions around Real Madrid’s dressing room
Valverde found himself at the centre of headlines last week after becoming involved in a fight with teammate Tchouaméni during a period of mounting tension inside the Real Madrid squad. The incident reportedly left the Uruguayan unconscious before he was taken to hospital with what was later described as a “small cut” on his forehead. He was subsequently diagnosed with cranioencephalic trauma, a form of traumatic brain injury, and ordered to rest for between 10 and 14 days under standard medical protocols.
As a result, Valverde missed La Liga fixtures against Barcelona, who went on to secure the La Liga title, as well as Madrid’s match against Real Oviedo. Both Valverde and Tchouaméni later issued public apologies following the altercation, while the pair were each fined €500,000 (£432,000). The fallout has only added to concerns surrounding tensions inside Real Madrid’s dressing room during a turbulent period for the club, and according to reports, several elite European sides are now watching closely in case the situation eventually forces Madrid to reconsider the futures of some senior players.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have all reportedly shown interest in Valverde since the incident, but Manchester United have now emerged as another serious admirer.

According to Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, United are considering ambitious plans to strengthen their midfield this summer, particularly with Casemiro already confirming that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. Valverde is viewed internally as one of the best midfielders in world football because of his versatility, experience and ability to influence games at the highest level.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, O’Rourke explained: “If he’s allowed to leave Real Madrid and becomes available in the summer, most of Europe’s big clubs would be interested in Valverde. He’s one of the best midfielders in world football, there’s no doubt about that. There’s been lots going on at Real Madrid with this bust-up with Tchouaméni and everything else, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens at Real in the summer. It’s no surprise that Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Valverde. We all know they’re looking to improve their midfield options and they will be active in this window to bring in midfielders, with Casemiro leaving. If he does become available, you’ll have a host of top clubs interested in Valverde, not just Manchester United.”
The 27-year-old remains contracted to Real Madrid until 2029 and reportedly earns close to £350,000 per week, making any deal financially difficult even before considering Madrid’s reluctance to sell. Still, United’s admiration reflects how highly Valverde is regarded across European football.
Valverde’s pedigree and consistency make him one of Europe’s elite midfielders
Since arriving at Real Madrid, Valverde has developed into one of the club’s most important players and a central figure in their midfield evolution following the gradual ageing of Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos. According to the same report, the club are also monitoring Tchouaméni’s situation following the dressing-room incident, with United long-term admirers of the French international even before the recent fallout. Former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown previously claimed United were interested in Tchouaméni and could consider a move this summer if circumstances changed at Madrid.
Should Valverde ultimately prove impossible to sign, Tchouaméni may emerge as a more realistic alternative as United continue assessing options for a major midfield rebuild. For now, Real Madrid are still believed to be determined to keep hold of their core players despite the internal tensions.
