Telangana Hockey Association President Intercepted with Gold Worth Crores
Income tax officials have made a significant seizure involving a prominent sports administrator in Telangana. Konda Vijay Kumar, president of the Telangana Hockey Association and member of the Telangana Olympic Association, was intercepted while traveling with nearly 2 kilograms of gold. The incident occurred on Thursday evening as he was en route from Hyderabad to Delhi to attend a sports event.
Details of the Gold Seizure at Delhi Airport
According to official sources, Vijay Kumar was wearing the gold ornaments when he was stopped with assistance from CISF personnel at Delhi airport. After prolonged questioning and examination of his financial records as part of a tax compliance probe, officials seized 1.4 kilograms of gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 2.3 crore. The seizure followed his inability to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of funds for the gold.
Officials conducted detailed questioning, collected information about his assets, and examined his financial documentation. While he was carrying close to 2 kilograms of gold, only 1.4 kilograms were ultimately seized after he failed to justify the funding source. The remaining gold was reportedly released after he produced bills on the spot.
Vijay Kumar's Response and Investigation Status
Following extended questioning, Vijay Kumar was allowed to proceed to attend his scheduled event in Delhi but was directed to appear before the income tax department for further proceedings. In his statement to officials and media, he maintained that his income and work are fully documented and declared.
"They seized six gold articles and then released three of them as I produced bills immediately," Vijay Kumar told reporters. "CISF personnel stopped me due to the election season. In Hyderabad, I declared the gold."
He further clarified, "I attended the function on Friday. I was not detained. I have been running Hope Foundation since 2016. I do not accept donations." He added that he would submit bills for the remaining items as required.

Income tax officials are continuing their investigation by gathering comprehensive details of Vijay Kumar's movable and immovable assets. The final outcome of the case, including the status of the seized gold, will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and subsequent tax assessment.
Vijay Kumar, also known as 'Bangaru Babu' (Goldman), is a resident of Chandanagar and runs the voluntary organization Hope Foundation. He has committed to appearing before the income tax department as directed and cooperating with the investigation process.
