AHMEDABAD: Royal Challengers Bengaluru seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar expressed his desire for the umpires to conduct a more thorough review of Jason Holder's catch that dismissed captain Rajat Patidar during the IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans.
The Controversial Catch
Patidar attempted a pick-up shot off left-arm seamer Arshad Khan, which sailed towards the fine-leg boundary. Holder, covering significant ground from deep square leg, completed a one-handed catch. However, as the tall all-rounder landed, his momentum carried him into the turf, and the ball appeared to make contact with the ground, sparking debate over the legality of the dismissal.
Bhuvneshwar's Reaction
Speaking after the match, Bhuvneshwar said, "I wasn't there at that moment. But from what I could see, the ball does touch the ground. I don't know what the umpire communicated to them. I am not sure whether it is within the laws or not. But we wanted the umpire to have a closer look at that."
Impact on the Match
The dismissal broke a crucial partnership and triggered a batting collapse, as RCB were bowled out for 155. Gujarat Titans chased down the target comfortably with 25 balls to spare.
Bowling Performance Analysis
Reflecting on the result, Bhuvneshwar felt that the RCB bowlers had not done much wrong, though he acknowledged that Josh Hazlewood had an off day. "I wouldn't say anything went wrong. They batted well. Hazlewood had an off day, and that can happen to anyone in a long tournament. But we are happy with the way we have been bowling in the Powerplay. It's just one game in a long tournament where someone had an off day, but we tried our best," he explained.
Batting Concerns
When asked about RCB's batting, Bhuvneshwar admitted the team fell short of a competitive total. He also addressed the decision not to use Krunal Pandya's left-arm spin, stating that conditions prompted them to persist with seam bowling. "We had Romario Shepherd as the third seamer, so we wanted to take a chance with him. Suyash is someone who is not easy to pick, and we wanted to get wickets quickly. That's why Krunal didn't bowl," he added.
