Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for a new cricket stadium in Anekal on Saturday. The event marked a significant step towards boosting sports infrastructure in the Bengaluru region. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar described the stadium as a gift from the state government to the citizens of Bengaluru.
Government's Vision for Sports Development
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent through modern facilities. He noted that the stadium would host domestic matches and provide a platform for aspiring cricketers. The project aligns with the government's broader vision to promote sports and healthy lifestyles across Karnataka.
Deputy CM's Remarks
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar highlighted that the stadium is part of the government's commitment to decentralized development. He said, "This stadium is our gift to the people of Bengaluru, especially the youth who dream of playing at the highest level." Shivakumar also thanked local representatives for their support in identifying the location.
Facilities and Timeline
The proposed stadium will include state-of-the-art amenities such as practice pitches, a pavilion, and seating for spectators. Officials expect construction to be completed within two years. The project is estimated to cost several crores and will be executed by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in collaboration with the state government.
CM Siddaramaiah also took a light-hearted moment to showcase his batting skills on the sidelines, drawing cheers from the gathering. The event saw participation from local MLAs, cricket officials, and sports enthusiasts.
This development comes as part of a series of infrastructure projects announced by the state government to enhance sports facilities. Earlier this year, the government unveiled plans for a new football stadium in Mysuru and a multi-purpose sports complex in Hubballi.
