Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
First Offence of the Season
This is Axar Patel's first offence of the season under the IPL's code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. As per the league's rules, the captain is fined Rs 12 lakh for the first violation. For subsequent offences, the fine increases to Rs 24 lakh and a one-match ban.
Match Details
In the match, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive total of 168 for 6 in their 20 overs, with significant contributions from their middle order. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target with ease, finishing at 171 for 4 in 18.3 overs, winning by six wickets. The loss pushed Delhi Capitals down in the points table, adding to their concerns over their net run rate.
The fine was imposed by the match referee after the match. Axar Patel accepted the sanction, and no formal hearing was required. The Delhi Capitals management has not commented on the matter, but the team will look to bounce back in their next fixture.
