Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal took to social media to express his disappointment after his team suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in New Delhi on Monday. The Capitals were bowled out for just 75 runs, their lowest total of the season, with Josh Hazlewood taking four wickets and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up three.
Jindal's Message to Fans
In a post on X, Jindal wrote, "Stay together more than ever now Delhi Capitals - really very tough to take but we must keep fighting and keep believing." The defeat was Delhi's second consecutive loss, following a high-scoring chase by Punjab Kings who had successfully chased down 265 runs against them in the previous match.
Batting Collapse in Powerplay
Delhi's batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with the top order reduced to 9 for 6 inside the powerplay. Bhuvneshwar Kumar generated significant swing, while Josh Hazlewood used the short ball effectively to dismantle the opposition. RCB's chase was straightforward, with Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal guiding their team to victory with ease.
Captain Axar Patel's Reaction
Captain Axar Patel admitted he was at a loss to explain the team's performance. "Even I don't know what happened. That's why they say you have to be on your toes in cricket. We have to move on from this match," he said during the post-match presentation.
Missed Opportunities
Axar reflected on earlier moments that may have affected the team's momentum, including a single refused by David Miller in the one-run loss to Gujarat Titans and dropped catches by Karun Nair against Punjab Kings. "From today's point of view, you can say it did effect, but you can look back, if the catches were taken (Nair) or had we taken the single against GT, then momentum would have been with us. The game is such that there is no room for ifs and buts. You have to be positive, you had a bad day and take the positives from the last 5-6 games," he added.
No Surprise in Bowling Performance
Despite Bhuvneshwar's inswinger bowling out debutant Sahil Parakh early, Axar did not believe there was unusual swing on offer. "I wasn't surprised, they are world class bowlers, they swing it every ground, but if our openers or top order had played them out then the result might have been different."
