Delhi Capitals Coach Hemang Badani Expresses Confidence Ahead of Crucial RCB Match
Despite suffering two successive defeats in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season, Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani has conveyed unwavering confidence in his squad's ability to bounce back. The team is gearing up for a pivotal encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru this Saturday, with Badani asserting that the side has already pinpointed and addressed its primary areas of concern.
Focus on Clarity Over Momentum After Recent Setbacks
Following losses to Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals have slipped into the bottom half of the IPL points table. However, Badani downplayed the significance of momentum, emphasizing instead the importance of internal clarity and problem-solving. In a pre-match press conference, he elaborated on this perspective, shifting the focus from external pressures to internal improvements.
"There is extensive discussion surrounding momentum in tournaments of this nature," Badani remarked. "Yet, I believe the core issue revolves around identifying the specific areas of concern for a team. We have essentially determined, or at least we feel we have successfully addressed, those particular issues."
Backing the Batting Lineup to Deliver
Badani strongly defended his batting unit, highlighting their consistent ability to post competitive totals despite the recent outcomes. He pointed to specific performances as evidence of their potential, expressing faith that the batters will rise to the occasion when it matters most.
"We have managed to score 190 and 200 runs in our matches. One game was lost by a mere single run. In our most recent outing, we still posted a total in the range of 180–190 runs," he explained. "It ultimately comes down to our batters performing effectively at critical moments. I am confident we will be perfectly fine."
Unwavering Support for Young Pacer Auqib Nabi
The coach also reaffirmed his trust in young fast bowler Auqib Nabi, who experienced a challenging debut against Chennai Super Kings, conceding 17 runs across two overs. Badani detailed the rationale behind the team's decision to invest in Nabi, praising his temperament and consistency as key attributes.
"We pursued him aggressively for two primary reasons—his exceptional temperament and his remarkable consistency," Badani stated. "He has maintained a remarkable equilibrium. Numerous players react differently to highs and lows, but he has remained steadfastly consistent throughout."
He further added, "He possesses the necessary skill-set to compete at an elevated level. It is natural for anyone to experience nerves during their inaugural match, but I firmly believe he will perform admirably for our team."
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Present a Formidable Challenge
As Delhi Capitals strive for greater consistency, they face a stern test against a well-balanced Royal Challengers Bengaluru side. RCB has emerged as one of the most formidable teams this season, spearheaded by the in-form Virat Kohli, who currently holds the prestigious Orange Cap for the highest run-scorer.
Critically, RCB's batting strength no longer relies exclusively on Kohli. Contributions from players such as Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Phil Salt, and Tim David have significantly bolstered their lineup. Patidar, in particular, has been outstanding, leading the charts for most sixes hit this season.
Inconsistency Plagues Delhi Capitals' Key Players
For Delhi Capitals, inconsistency remains a pressing concern. Several experienced names, including KL Rahul, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs, have struggled to find their rhythm. Additionally, skipper Axar Patel and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have yet to reach their peak form, adding to the team's challenges as they prepare for this crucial fixture.
