Devon Conway Confirms CSK Exit Before IPL 2026 Retention

Devon Conway Bids Farewell to Chennai Super Kings

In a significant development just hours before the IPL 2026 retention deadline, New Zealand opening batter Devon Conway has officially confirmed his departure from Chennai Super Kings. The announcement, made on social media platform X on Saturday, November 15, 2025, marks the end of his three-year association with the five-time IPL champions.

Three Seasons of Highs and Lows with CSK

Conway's journey with the yellow brigade began when CSK acquired him for ₹1 crore ahead of the 2022 season. Over three seasons, the left-handed batsman featured in 29 IPL matches, accumulating an impressive 1,080 runs for the franchise.

His initial season under MS Dhoni's captaincy saw modest returns, but Conway exploded in the 2023 campaign, delivering a spectacular performance that single-handedly powered CSK's top order. His remarkable tally of 672 runs in 16 matches during that season played a crucial role in guiding Chennai Super Kings to their record-equaling fifth IPL title.

Injury and Final Season Challenges

The 2024 season presented challenges for the Kiwi batsman, as a thumb injury kept him out of the entire tournament. Despite this setback, CSK demonstrated their faith in him by securing his services for a substantial ₹6.25 crore at last year's auction.

However, his final season with the team saw limited opportunities, with Conway managing only 156 runs across six appearances in what would become his farewell campaign with the franchise.

Heartfelt Thank You to CSK Faithful

Making his departure official, Conway took to X to share a series of nostalgic photographs from his CSK days accompanied by a heartfelt message for the team's supporters. "Thank you to all loyal fans of CSK for amazing 3 years support," the New Zealand international wrote, expressing his gratitude to the passionate Chennai fanbase that had supported him throughout his tenure.

The timing of Conway's announcement adds significant weight to the ongoing IPL 2026 retention discussions, as franchises race against the November 15 deadline to finalize their squads. His departure creates a notable vacancy in CSK's batting lineup that the management will need to address strategically in the upcoming auction.
