NEW DELHI: In a shocking development, the CCTV surveillance system at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was damaged on the day of the IPL 2026 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans on April 24, according to a report by Deccan Herald.
The report stated that more than 240 cameras were found non-functional, disrupting surveillance across key security areas on match day. Despite the chaos, defending champions RCB successfully chased down Gujarat Titans’ massive 205/3 in 18.5 overs.
Police Action and Accused
Cubbon Park police acted quickly and booked two individuals - Manjunath (37), a resident of Hiriyur in Chitradurga, and Abdul Kalam (19), from Uttar Pradesh.
"The incident took place on April 24 during the match. Both the accused were working under a sub-vendor of IVS Digital Solutions, providing digital services during match days," a senior police officer said.
Complaint Filed
Aditya Bhat, an employee of Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd, a Gurugram-based firm that provides AI-driven surveillance solutions during match days, lodged a complaint with the police. He alleged that Manjunath and Abdul entered the CCTV control room without valid passes and damaged the Network Video Recorder (NVR) systems and related fibre connections. CCTV footage reportedly shows the duo accessing restricted areas. Due to the disruption, officials were unable to provide live surveillance feeds to police personnel deployed at the stadium.
Motive Behind the Damage
During the investigation, the accused reportedly told police that they had not been paid dues amounting to Rs 10 lakh.
