New Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) are set to host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 48 of IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday. Both teams are desperate to secure a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Current Standings
CSK and DC currently occupy the seventh and eighth positions on the points table, respectively, with eight points from nine matches each. A loss in this encounter could push either side into a must-win situation for the remainder of the league stage.
Recent Form
Despite both teams coming into this match on the back of a win, the weather could play a decisive role. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Delhi on Tuesday, predicting rain, hail, and thunderstorms.
Delhi Weather Forecast
Parts of Delhi experienced hail and thunderstorms as an unseasonal spell of rain and cloud cover brought relief from the heat. The orange alert covers New Delhi, Central Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi, Outer North Delhi, North East Delhi, Shahdara, East Delhi, and parts of South and South West Delhi.
Temperatures have dropped across several areas due to the changing weather. Dark clouds have been observed over the city since Tuesday afternoon. With rain over the past few nights, interruptions during the DC vs CSK match are possible. The IMD has also forecast hailstorms in some parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius, with rain and thunderstorms likely later in the day.
Impact of a Washout
If rain leads to a washout, both teams will be affected in the playoff race. With both teams currently on eight points from nine matches, a washout would give them one point each, taking them to nine points. Their maximum possible points would then be 17.
If they lose any more matches after that, they can reach a maximum of 15 points. With Punjab Kings already on 13 points and four other teams on 12 points each, 15 points may not be enough to qualify for the playoffs.
