IPL 2026 Poll: RCB Favorites, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines, Tech Concerns

NEW DELHI: As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season approaches its business end, a Times of India Online poll has captured fan sentiments and expectations ahead of the playoffs. The survey, conducted among cricket enthusiasts, highlights a tight race for the championship prediction, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) emerging as the frontrunners.

Fan Favorites for the Title

Approximately 39% of voters backed the Virat Kohli-led RCB to retain the trophy. RCB finished atop the league table after registering nine wins in the 70-match league stage, tying on points with Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad but advancing on superior net run rate. Following RCB, the Shubman Gill-captained Gujarat Titans secured 24% of the votes, while Sunrisers Hyderabad garnered 21%. The fourth-placed Rajasthan Royals received 16% support.

Breakout Star of the Season

One of the most striking results came from the question: "Who is the most promising talent of IPL 2026?" The response was overwhelmingly in favor of 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who secured a massive 89% of the votes. The young Rajasthan Royals opener has become a breakout star this season. Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants finished a distant second with 7%, while Anshul Kamboj and Kartik Sharma of Chennai Super Kings each received 2%.

Concerns Over Batting-Friendly Pitches

The poll also reflected growing unease about the balance between bat and ball. A staggering 86% of fans felt the tournament has become increasingly batting-friendly, a sentiment echoed by the record number of 200-plus totals this season.

Shift in Viewership Habits

Viewership trends indicate a significant shift toward digital consumption. About 43% of respondents watched IPL matches on Smart TVs via streaming apps, while 27% preferred mobile phones. Traditional cable television accounted for 25% of viewership, with only 5% watching on computers or laptops.

Technology in Cricket

Another major concern was the increasing use of technology in matches. Approximately 54% of fans believed that excessive technological interventions disrupted the momentum and flow of the game.
