Rajasthan Royals Launch IPL 2026 Campaign with Commanding Victory Over Chennai Super Kings

In a spectacular opening to their Indian Premier League 2026 season, the Rajasthan Royals delivered a dominant performance, securing a resounding eight-wicket triumph against the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings. The match unfolded at the vibrant Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, setting a high-octane tone for the tournament ahead.

Jadeja's Animated 'Gun' Celebration Steals the Spotlight

Amidst the intense on-field action, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja captured significant attention with his lively celebration after claiming a crucial wicket. Following the dismissal of a CSK all-rounder, Jadeja unleashed a distinctive 'gun' gesture, sparking curiosity among fans and commentators alike.

Post-match, during an interaction on the JioStar expert panel, former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Anil Kumble inquired about the celebration's origins. "Jadeja, ye naya aaya hai market mein?" they questioned, to which Jadeja responded, "Ye mai CSK se jab khela karta tha, tab mai ye celebration karta tha. Maine socha to be continued karein."

Elaborating on his strategic mindset, Jadeja shared insights into his bowling approach. "Dube ka mujhe pata tha wo spinners ko pehle ball se maarne ko sochta hai. Wo mere dimaag mein kahin na kahin tha but at the same time wo bhi soch rha tha ki agar uska wicket gya to CSK ka middle order khali ho jayega. Positive mindset se ball daalne ka soch rha tha mai bass," he explained.

Emotional Reflections on Facing Former Franchise

Jadeja also opened up about the sentimental experience of competing against his previous team, Chennai Super Kings, where he had spent over a decade. "I’m liking the pink colour. The yellow had started to feel a bit old, but I’m just joking. Obviously, leaving a franchise like CSK, where I had played for 12-13 years, was a little difficult initially. It was very emotional," he confessed.

He added, "But I told myself that changes like these are also part of the journey. The good thing was that I’m now with the team where I had first won an IPL title. That memory has always stayed with me, that after the Under-19 World Cup, I started my IPL career there and won the title in my very first season."

Jadeja emphasized his commitment to growth and contribution with the Royals, stating, "I have carried those memories along with a positive mindset, and my aim is to learn as much as I can with the new group and also share my experience with the team."

Match Highlights and Bowling Strategy

Jadeja's impactful bowling performance was instrumental in restricting CSK to a modest total of 127 runs, which Rajasthan Royals chased down comfortably. The chase was spearheaded by a blistering innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, showcasing the team's batting prowess.

Reflecting on the pitch conditions, Jadeja noted, "The wicket was a bit sticky, so it suited my kind of bowling. My job was simply to bowl in the right areas. When you hit the right areas on a wicket that is holding up slightly, the ball tends to grip and come slower, which feels good as a bowler. Getting such a surface to bowl on in the very first match boosts your confidence as a bowler."

He detailed his tactical adjustments during the game, saying, "I was thinking of bowling it at the stumps, as I wanted to take a chance in case he didn’t middle it. But when he hit me for a six, I quickly changed my strategy to bowling wide, as he would have kept hitting me on a straight line. So, I decided to finish on the fifth-sixth-stump line, thinking that if he went across, he might not get his timing right, and that's what happened. Luckily, he did not get the elevation he was looking for, and it was a big wicket for us."

Upcoming Fixture and Tournament Outlook

With this convincing victory, Rajasthan Royals have set a strong precedent for their IPL 2026 campaign. The team is scheduled to face the Gujarat Titans next at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on April 4, promising another thrilling encounter as the tournament progresses.

This match not only highlighted Rajasthan Royals' strategic depth and batting firepower but also underscored the emotional narratives that enrich the IPL, with players like Jadeja navigating transitions while maintaining peak performance on the field.
