Jos Buttler Achieves Landmark 600 Sixes in T20 Cricket During IPL Clash
In a thrilling Indian Premier League encounter, Gujarat Titans' star batter Jos Buttler reached a significant milestone by hitting his 600th six in T20 cricket against the Delhi Capitals. The England international's achievement places him among an elite group of power-hitters, marking a historic moment in his career.
Buttler Joins Exclusive Club of T20 Six-Hitters
With this feat, Jos Buttler became only the fifth batter in T20 history to surpass 600 sixes. He now stands alongside legendary names in the format: Chris Gayle leads with an astounding 1,056 sixes, followed by Kieron Pollard (981), Andre Russell (784), and Nicholas Pooran (712). This milestone underscores Buttler's reputation as one of the most destructive batters in modern limited-overs cricket.
Match Performance and Statistical Highlights
Buttler's innings of 52 runs off just 27 balls was a masterclass in aggressive batting, featuring five sixes and three fours at a strike rate of 192.59. Notably, his five sixes in the first six overs rank as the second-most for a non-opener in an IPL innings, trailing only Suresh Raina's record of six sixes during his iconic 87 off 25 balls against PBKS in the 2014 Qualifier 2 at Wankhede Stadium.
This explosive knock ended a 16-match drought for Buttler without a T20 fifty, his previous half-century coming for the Durban Super Giants against the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 tournament earlier this year. It also provided a much-needed boost after a disappointing T20 World Cup, where he managed only 87 runs in eight innings at an average of 10.87.
Buttler's Current Form and Team Contribution
In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Buttler has shown promising form, accumulating 116 runs in three innings at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate above 156. Across all T20 matches this year, he has scored 422 runs in 19 innings at an average of 23.44 and a strike rate of 140.66, including two fifties and a top score of 97 not out.
During the match against Delhi Capitals, Buttler played a crucial role after Gujarat Titans lost Sai Sudharsan early for 12 runs. He partnered with Shubman Gill to add 60 runs, stabilizing the innings. Gill then combined with Washington Sundar, who scored a brisk 55 off 32 balls, for a 104-run stand, propelling GT to a competitive total of 210/4 in their 20 overs. Glenn Phillips (14 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (1 not out) remained unbeaten to finish the innings.
Bowling Efforts and Match Outcome
For Delhi Capitals, Mukesh Kumar emerged as the most successful bowler with figures of 2/55, while Kuldeep Yadav and Lungi Ngidi each claimed a wicket. Despite a valiant chase led by KL Rahul's explosive 92 off 52 balls, DC fell just one run short of the target. David Miller's quickfire 41 off 20 balls kept the contest alive until the final delivery, but Gujarat Titans held their nerve to secure a narrow victory.
This match not only highlighted individual brilliance but also showcased the intense competition that defines the IPL, with Buttler's milestone adding to the tournament's rich history of record-breaking performances.
