Kalaburagi Man Dies by Suicide After Losing Money in IPL Betting
A tragic incident unfolded in Kalaburagi district on Thursday when a 40-year-old man died by suicide by drowning in the Bennethora backwater near Nagur village in Kamalapur taluk. The deceased has been identified as Chandrakath Madhavarao Desai, a resident of Rummagud in Kalagi taluk within the same district.
Depression Following Financial Loss
According to police sources, Desai was reportedly suffering from severe depression after losing a substantial amount of money in Indian Premier League (IPL) betting. This financial setback is believed to have driven him to take the extreme step.
On Thursday evening, Desai arrived at the backwater of the Bennethora River. He parked his motorcycle and left his cellphone on the river bank before jumping into the waters. Bystanders who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the authorities.
Police Response and Investigation
Local police swiftly responded to the scene and retrieved Desai's body later that evening. The Mahagaum police have taken charge of the investigation, visiting the crime site to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances leading to the suicide.
