Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Simon Green has acknowledged that the team took a bit too long in figuring out the right people in the right positions during the IPL 2026 season. Speaking after a recent match, Green admitted that this delay impacted the team's overall performance and results.
Delay in Role Assignment
Green stated that the coaching staff and management spent considerable time experimenting with different combinations and roles for players. This process, he noted, should have been completed earlier in the tournament to allow players to settle into their specific responsibilities. The delay, according to Green, contributed to inconsistency in the team's performances.
Impact on Team Performance
The KKR mentor emphasized that when players are unsure of their roles, it affects their confidence and on-field execution. He pointed out that several matches were lost due to confusion in batting orders and bowling changes. Green believes that once the roles were clearly defined, the team showed improvement, but the initial losses proved costly.
Learning for Future Seasons
Green concluded that this experience serves as a valuable lesson for the franchise. In future seasons, the management will aim to finalize player roles much earlier, ideally before the tournament begins. This, he hopes, will lead to a more cohesive and effective team unit from the start.
