LSG Team Embarks on Spiritual Journey to Ayodhya Ahead of IPL 2026
In a significant pre-season ritual, the Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a devout visit to the revered Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The team, led by captain Rishabh Pant, sought divine blessings from Lord Ram as they prepare for the high-stakes IPL 2026 tournament, which is set to commence later this month.
A Sacred Experience for the Squad
The entire LSG delegation, comprising twenty players, team owner Sanjiv Goenka, and key members like fast bowler Mayank Yadav, participated in the spiritual activities with deep reverence. According to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Communication Centre of Ayodhya Dham, the players were granted the unique privilege of viewing the 'Shri Ram Yantra'—a sacred geometric diagram—for the first time since its consecration. This rare access highlighted the special arrangements made for the cricket team.
Rishabh Pant, in particular, demonstrated profound devotion by sitting apart for approximately five minutes, immersing himself in deep meditation. The team also sought darshan of Shri Ram Lala (the infant Lord Ram) and the Shri Ram family deities, enhancing their spiritual connection. Rajnish Sharma, who assisted with the darshan arrangements, confirmed that all members offered heartfelt prayers to Lord Shri Ram, marking a moment of unity and faith.
Rituals and Reflections
Following the prayers, the LSG squad actively participated in the Bhog Aarti, a ritual offering of food and prayers, which added to the sanctity of their visit. The delegation had traveled from Lucknow and returned directly to the Ekana Stadium after the temple visit, emphasizing the seamless integration of this spiritual engagement into their pre-season schedule.
After the temple visit, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka shared his thoughts with ANI, stating, "Offering prayers to Lord Ram is never enough, and with the IPL season about to begin, all the players offered prayers at the temple here. With Lord Ram's blessings, everything falls into place." This sentiment underscores the team's belief in seeking divine support for success in the upcoming matches.
IPL 2026 Schedule and LSG's Campaign
The visit comes at a crucial time, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the first phase of IPL 2026 on March 11. The tournament will run from March 28 to April 12, with LSG set to kick off their season against Delhi Capitals on April 1. Their subsequent matches in this phase include clashes with Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5, Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9, and Gujarat Titans on April 12.
This spiritual prelude is part of LSG's broader pre-season engagements, aimed at fostering team morale and focus before the high-profile competition. The management, including Goenka and Pant, accompanied by select members, ensured that the visit was both meaningful and strategically timed.
