Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a stunning six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala on Thursday, keeping the IPL 2026 points table wide open. This was the first time Jasprit Bumrah captained MI in the IPL, leading the team to their fourth win of the season. With eight points from 12 matches, MI remain in ninth place, but their win has significant implications for the playoff race.
Punjab Kings' Playoff Hopes Take a Hit
Punjab Kings suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, leaving their playoff chances hanging by a thread. PBKS, who led the points table for much of the first half of the league stage, now sit fourth with 13 points from 12 games. They face a must-win situation in their remaining two matches; two victories would guarantee a playoff spot, while any slip-up could see them eliminated.
Top of the Table: RCB Lead
Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) remain at the summit of the IPL 2026 points table after a comprehensive six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday. RCB have 16 points from 12 matches, with a net run rate (NRR) of +1.053, narrowly ahead of Gujarat Titans (GT), who also have 16 points but a lower NRR of +0.551. GT are in second place.
The defeat left KKR stranded in eighth spot with nine points from 11 games, keeping their playoff hopes alive by the thinnest of margins. Their four-match winning streak was ended by RCB.
Playoff Contenders and Eliminated Teams
After RCB and GT, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) occupy third place with 14 points, followed by PBKS with 13 points. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are fifth with 12 points from 11 games, ahead of Rajasthan Royals (RR) on superior NRR, with both teams having three matches left. Delhi Capitals (DC) are seventh with 10 points from 12 games, while KKR have nine points from 11. MI and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are the only two teams eliminated so far this season.
