The Nashik city police apprehended four individuals involved in an online betting operation from a hotel room in the Ambad area on Friday night. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officials conducted a raid and confiscated a laptop, nine mobile phones, and other equipment valued at approximately Rs 2.8 lakh.
Details of the Raid
According to a senior officer from the Ambad police station, the operation was initiated after a constable from a patrol team received a call at 10:30 pm on Friday. A woman reported that an online betting racket was being run from a hotel in Ambad. The constable promptly proceeded to the location and, upon searching the rooms, discovered four men red-handed accepting bets on an ongoing IPL T20 match.
Seizure and Investigation
The constable immediately alerted senior police officials, leading to a formal panchnama. During the search, authorities recovered a register indicating that the accused had been accepting bets on cricket matches from May 3 to May 29. The seized items include a laptop and nine cellphones, all valued at Rs 2.8 lakh.
Arrests and Background
Of the four arrested individuals, three are residents of Jalgaon, while one is from Nashik city. During questioning, the suspects could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the ownership of the confiscated cellphones. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.
The swift action by the patrol team constable and subsequent coordination with senior officials led to the successful bust. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the betting network.
