Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fielder Rovman Powell produced a breathtaking moment on the field by taking a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Heinrich Klaasen during their IPL 2026 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.
Positioned at deep mid-wicket, Powell displayed exceptional agility as he moved swiftly to his right and plucked Klaasen's powerful shot out of the air with a single hand. Earlier in the over, Klaasen had smashed a six and was looking to accelerate the scoring, but Powell's athletic effort brought his innings to a premature end at just 11 runs off Cameron Green's bowling.
The catch quickly became a talking point on social media, with Powell also breaking his sunglasses while completing the remarkable effort. Despite the mishap, he maintained his composure and held onto the ball to send Klaasen back to the pavilion.
Match Context and Turning Point
The dismissal occurred in the 11th over of the SRH innings. At that stage, SRH appeared to be in control even after losing Travis Head, who had earlier registered a half-century. Klaasen had started the over with a six and attempted to clear the boundary once more, but he failed to generate sufficient distance as Powell completed the catch with precision.
KKR's Bowling Resurgence
Varun Chakravarthy continued his impressive resurgence, claiming a three-wicket haul to dismantle the SRH batting lineup. Veteran Sunil Narine also reached a significant milestone, grabbing his 200th wicket in the IPL, as KKR mounted a strong comeback during the middle overs. Their combined efforts resulted in SRH being bowled out for 165 runs in 19 overs.
SRH's Collapse
Opting to bat first, SRH displayed their characteristic aggressive batting approach, racing to 77 for 1 after the powerplay and reaching 107 for 2 at the halfway mark. Travis Head was the standout performer, scoring 61 runs off just 28 balls, his second consecutive half-century. However, the innings took a dramatic turn in the second half, as SRH lost nine wickets in the span of 10 overs while adding only 60 runs. This marked the first instance in IPL 2026 that SRH were bowled out.
Key Bowling Figures
Chakravarthy finished with impressive figures of 3 for 26, while Narine took two wickets for 31 runs. Kartik Tyagi also contributed with two wickets for 30 runs, ensuring KKR's dominance in the latter stages of the innings.
