NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan experienced another bizarre dismissal during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 clash against Rajasthan Royals, getting out hit-wicket for the second consecutive game. The unusual incident stunned both players and fans during GT's chase in Mullanpur.
Sudharsan was batting brilliantly on 58 off 32 balls and had already placed Gujarat in a strong position alongside captain Shubman Gill. However, in the 13th over, while attempting an attacking shot against Brijesh Sharma, his bat slipped from his hand and crashed directly into the stumps.
The dismissal shocked everyone inside the stadium, especially as a similar incident had occurred to Sudharsan in Gujarat's previous game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Commentator Ravi Shastri could hardly believe what he had witnessed on air. "Where is the fevicol? Where is the glue?" asked Ravi Shastri on air.
The delivery itself was a low full toss outside off stump. Sudharsan opened the face of the bat and sliced the ball behind square for what looked like another boundary. However, while completing the shot, the bat slipped out of his grip and knocked over the stumps.
Interestingly, Sai Sudharsan has now been dismissed hit-wicket three times in men's T20 cricket, all in the IPL. That puts him level with Andre Russell and Shoaib Malik for the most hit-wicket dismissals in men's T20s.
What makes the record even more unusual is that no other batter in IPL history has been dismissed hit-wicket more than once.
Despite the freak dismissal, Sudharsan's aggressive knock kept Gujarat Titans firmly in the chase during the knockout clash against Rajasthan Royals.
