After a string of three low scores, Sanju Samson roared back to form with a magnificent hundred, leading Chennai Super Kings to a 23-run triumph over Delhi Capitals on Saturday in Chennai. This victory marked CSK's first win of the IPL 2026 season, ending a frustrating run of six consecutive losses at their home ground.
Samson and Mhatre Set Up Commanding Total
Asked to bat first by Delhi Capitals, CSK posted an imposing total of 212/2 in their 20 overs, largely thanks to a dominant partnership. Sanju Samson played a blistering innings, remaining unbeaten on 115 off just 56 balls, which included 15 fours and four sixes. He was ably supported by Ayush Mhatre, who contributed a quickfire 59 off 36 balls, featuring three fours and four sixes. This explosive batting display set a challenging target for the visitors.
Bowling Unit Steps Up Despite 'X-Factor' Absence
In response, Delhi Capitals started strongly with Pathum Nissanka scoring 41 off 24 balls and adding 62 runs with KL Rahul. Tristan Stubbs later provided resistance with a brisk 60 off 30 balls. However, CSK's bowlers, led by Jamie Overton with four wickets for 18 runs and Kamboj with three for 35, struck at regular intervals to bowl out DC for 189.
After the match, CSK pacer Ruturaj Gaikwad highlighted the team's bowling efforts. "Feels good to finally get the win. Great performance," he said. Gaikwad acknowledged that the team lacks an 'X-Factor' in bowling but emphasized ongoing discussions to improve effectiveness. Bowling-wise, we were on the mark tonight," he added.
