Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara has thrown his weight behind young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of the team's Indian Premier League clash against Delhi Capitals, emphasizing that the youngster understands the game well and should continue enjoying his cricket.
Speaking to reporters before the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Sangakkara stated that Sooryavanshi has already settled into the Rajasthan Royals setup despite his tender age. "Vaibhav is supremely talented and very young. He should enjoy every moment on the field. He will have his good days and bad days. That is perfectly fine. He loves batting, reads the game really well, and is a smart young kid. Around the group, he has held his own among seniors," Sangakkara remarked.
Rajasthan Royals currently occupy the fifth spot on the IPL points table with six wins from 11 matches, accumulating 12 points. To improve their chances of reaching the playoffs, the team now needs victories in at least two of their remaining league fixtures. Sangakkara emphasized that the focus should remain on the present rather than looking too far ahead. He added that maintaining consistent standards would be crucial in the final phase of the league stage.
"Sometimes you tend to think too far ahead. We have conversations with players to keep their focus. We have to win all our games, and it is a good challenge for the team. The real key is to be consistent with your standards. We are in a good place with the ball, but not so much with the bat. That happens in T20 cricket. You have to keep believing in your skillset to beat any side," he added.
