Topuria Dismisses Gaethje's Threats Before UFC Title Fight

Ilia Topuria has responded strongly after Justin Gaethje promised to 'bring him down' before their lightweight title clash at UFC White House. The fight is expected to headline one of the biggest UFC events of the year on June 14 during the America 250 celebrations. Fans have already started talking heavily about the matchup because both fighters are known for their aggressive style and confidence before fights.

Gaethje's Provocative Statements

Gaethje recently made headlines during an interview when he said he wanted to remind Topuria that he was 'just a human.' The former BMF champion explained that he enjoys being counted out and believes Topuria sees himself as unbeatable. Speaking before the fight, Gaethje said, 'I love pressure, I love being the underdog. I love being counted out, and I love the fact that my opponent thinks he is some kind of God or king, because I get to bring him down and let him know he is just a human, like all of us.'

Topuria's Confident Retort

Ilia Topuria says Justin Gaethje sounds like every opponent he has already beaten before UFC White House. Topuria did not stay quiet for long. Speaking to Diario AS, the UFC lightweight champion brushed off Gaethje's comments and said he has heard the same kind of talk many times before. According to Topuria, several opponents have promised to humble him, but none of them managed to do it once the cage door closed. 'He has the same speech as all my opponents, that he's going to give me a lesson in humility, that he's going to put me in my place, that I'm super arrogant,' Topuria said. 'But, well, you know how all that ends up.'

Even though Topuria sounded confident, he still gave credit to Gaethje's dangerous fighting style. The Spanish Georgian star admitted that Gaethje's unpredictable striking can create problems for anyone inside the octagon. 'Strength? Let's see. He's good. He's a guy who represents danger. He has chaotic hands, you don't know where he's going to throw from,' Topuria added. 'In that chaos, we're going to bring him calm and anesthesia.'

Gaethje Compares Topuria to McGregor

The rivalry became even more interesting after Gaethje compared Topuria's confidence to former UFC double champion Conor McGregor. During an interview with TMZ Sports, Gaethje said Topuria reminds him of McGregor because of the way he promotes himself before fights. 'This is how he approaches many fights. He's been successful every time along the road,' Gaethje explained. 'It's similar to how McGregor approached it in that you're going to make yourself this unbeatable, infallible person, and then when you lose, where do you go from there? So, I can't wait to teach him that lesson.'

Recent Performances

Topuria enters the fight after knocking out Charles Oliveira in the first round to capture the lightweight title, while Gaethje is coming off a decision win over Paddy Pimblett at UFC 324 earlier this year. Both fighters are eager to prove themselves in this high-stakes matchup.
