Mysuru City Corporation Greenlights Rs 4.9 Crore Indoor Stadium Project
In a significant move to enhance sports infrastructure, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has officially decided to construct a new stadium with indoor facilities dedicated to kabaddi and badminton. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 4.9 crore, will be located at Kumbara Koppal, marking a strategic investment in youth sports development.
Strategic Location and Timely Execution
The government has identified a 2.5-acre plot of land for this ambitious project at Kumbara Koppal, situated near the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research. Following approval granted at a recent council meeting, MCC has meticulously prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to outline the stadium's specifications and requirements.
MCC plans to initiate construction within the next two months, pending the DPR's final approval and the awarding of tenders. According to MCC superintendent engineer CS Manju, a six-month timeline has been set for completion, meaning that if all proceeds as scheduled, the new stadium could be operational within the next eight months.
Promoting Sports in a Historic Locale
MCC commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, in an interview, emphasized that Kumbara Koppal was selected specifically to promote both indoor and outdoor sports among the youth in the region. This locality, one of Mysuru's oldest, has a rich sporting heritage, having traditionally hosted state- and national-level wrestling competitions during the Maharajas era. Notably, several wrestling training houses, known as garadi mane, continue to function in the area, adding to its cultural and athletic significance.
State-of-the-Art Stadium Features
The new stadium is designed to be a modern, multifunctional facility with a range of advanced amenities:
- Year-Round Events: Capable of hosting sports activities throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
- 700-Seat Capacity: A spacious seating arrangement to accommodate spectators for various events.
- Disabled-Friendly Access: Ensuring inclusivity with facilities designed for easy access by individuals with disabilities.
- Essential Infrastructure: Includes toilets and a compound wall for security and convenience.
- VIP Lounges: Special areas for dignitaries and guests during events.
- AI-Based Crowd Monitoring: Incorporation of artificial intelligence for enhanced safety and management of attendees.
- Rainwater Harvesting: An eco-friendly feature to promote sustainability and water conservation.
This project represents a forward-thinking approach by MCC to not only provide top-notch sports facilities but also to preserve and build upon the area's historical sporting legacy. By focusing on kabaddi and badminton, the stadium aims to cater to popular indoor sports, potentially fostering local talent and hosting competitive events in the future.
