Anthony Edwards will be available for Game 2 against the Spurs on Wednesday night, giving the Minnesota Timberwolves another boost as they attempt to build on their narrow playoff opening victory. The team entered the series with significant concern regarding their franchise guard after a painful knee injury in the first round. However, Edwards returned in Game 1 and looked far more comfortable than many anticipated after missing 10 days.
The Timberwolves desperately needed that sight. Edwards played 25 minutes off the bench in the 104-102 win over San Antonio and immediately altered the game's pace whenever he was on the floor. He finished with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists, two three-pointers, and a block while shooting 8-for-13 from the field. Now, with Minnesota leading the series, head coach Chris Finch indicated that the star guard could see his workload increase depending on how the knee responds during Game 2.
Anthony Edwards Game 2 Status Against the Spurs
Anthony Edwards was officially listed as questionable earlier in the day due to the lingering bone bruise in his left knee. Nevertheless, signs throughout the morning pointed toward another appearance. He participated in shootaround and continued progressing through recovery work without any major setbacks. By Wednesday evening, Minnesota confirmed he would play.
Finch also suggested that the Timberwolves will continue monitoring Edwards carefully rather than rushing him into heavy minutes too quickly. This approach makes sense given how valuable he is to everything Minnesota does offensively. Even in limited action during Game 1, Edwards created scoring opportunities that the Spurs struggled to contain. Without him at full strength, the Timberwolves lose a significant portion of their shot creation and transition attack. His explosiveness instantly alters defensive coverages. Defenders cannot relax when he is on the floor, especially in late-clock situations where his ability to create space becomes critical.
Minnesota already survived one playoff series while dealing with injuries. Now the team hopes it can avoid another setback with its young star still working his way back into rhythm.
What Happened to Anthony Edwards?
The injury dates back to Minnesota's first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, when Edwards hyperextended his left knee during Game 4. The moment looked serious immediately. The Ant Man landed awkwardly on his leg late in the first half and stayed down while slapping the floor in frustration before needing help to the locker room. Later evaluations revealed a bone bruise and hyperextension, though fortunately, no ligament damage appeared on the MRI.
The Timberwolves were already dealing with another major blow after Donte DiVincenzo suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the same game. Finch admitted afterward, "Completely devastating for Donte. He has had such a great season. He is the heart and soul of so many things that we do." For now, Minnesota appears relieved simply to have Edwards back on the floor, even if the recovery remains a work in progress.
