Carlos Alcaraz Opens Up About Simple Life and Injury Worries
Carlos Alcaraz, one of the most prominent figures in contemporary tennis, continues to dominate the sport with title wins and accolades, yet his off-court existence remains remarkably humble. The Spanish sensation recently revealed that he still resides with his parents, a choice he believes helps him maintain his authentic self amidst the pressures of professional tennis.
Staying Grounded with Family Support
After clinching the prestigious 2026 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, Alcaraz spoke candidly about his personal life. He emphasized that living with his father, Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, and mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, provides a calming influence and keeps him connected to his roots.
"Every time I return home, it feels as though I forget I'm a tennis player," Alcaraz explained. "With my friends and family, I'm still in the same house as always, which takes me back to my beginnings and makes me feel like the same 'Carlitos' I was as a child." This straightforward routine appears to be a key factor in managing the stress associated with his high-profile career.
Despite a phenomenal 2025 season, where he achieved the World No. 1 ranking and secured victories at the French Open and US Open, Alcaraz has consciously opted not to alter his lifestyle, underscoring his commitment to simplicity and family values.
Injury Concerns Clouding Tennis Prospects
However, Alcaraz's journey on the court is currently overshadowed by fitness issues. He sustained a right wrist injury during the Barcelona Open, shortly after a challenging final loss to Jannik Sinner at the Monte Carlo Masters. Although he managed to compete in his initial match in Barcelona, defeating Otto Virtanen, the injury compelled him to withdraw before facing Tomas Machac.
This setback also led to his absence from the Madrid Open, sparking uncertainties about his readiness for the upcoming French Open. In response to these concerns, Alcaraz has clarified that his participation hinges on forthcoming medical evaluations.
"We'll see. The next medical test will be crucial," he stated. "We've been doing everything possible to ensure the test goes well. I'm trying to remain very patient. We are in a good place, just waiting a bit. We have a few tests in the next few days, and then we'll assess the injury and determine the next steps."
Currently, the situation remains ambiguous. Alcaraz had intended to compete throughout the clay season, including the Rome tournament, prior to the French Open. His return to play will ultimately depend on how his wrist responds in the coming days, leaving fans and analysts eagerly awaiting updates.
