The Los Angeles Knight Riders endured another challenging Major League Cricket campaign in 2025, finishing at the bottom of the six-team standings with only two victories from ten matches. They accumulated four points and ended with a net run-rate of -1.320, failing to secure a playoff berth.
Disappointing Start and Brief Revival
The season began disastrously with three consecutive losses, including a crushing 113-run defeat to Washington Freedom, their heaviest of the tournament. A six-wicket triumph over Seattle Orcas in Dallas briefly raised hopes, but LAKR could not maintain momentum. They lost six of their next seven matches, with their campaign effectively ending before a spirited final-day win over San Francisco Unicorns.
Inconsistency and Bowling Woes
LAKR suffered several heavy defeats while chasing and repeatedly failed to defend competitive totals. Their biggest win came in a rain-shortened thriller against San Francisco Unicorns, where they successfully defended 243 in 19 overs to finish on a high. However, the campaign was marked by inconsistency and a lack of bowling control, with only two victories and no no-results.

Match-by-Match Analysis
Match 3: Lost to San Francisco Unicorns by 32 runs
LAKR's season opener proved disappointing. Chasing 220 after the Unicorns posted 219/8, they were bowled out for 187 in 19.5 overs. Despite some resistance from the middle order, the chase never truly gathered momentum.
Match 5: Lost to Texas Super Kings by 57 runs
Texas Super Kings amassed 181/4, and LAKR's batting collapsed under pressure. They were dismissed for 124 in 17.1 overs, registering back-to-back defeats and exposing early problems against quality pace bowling.
Match 8: Lost to Washington Freedom by 113 runs
Washington Freedom piled on 208/5 before producing a devastating bowling display. LAKR folded for just 95 in 16.3 overs, suffering their heaviest defeat of the season and extending their losing streak to three matches.
Match 12: Beat Seattle Orcas by six wickets
After three losses, LAKR finally got on the board. Seattle posted 177/6, but the Knight Riders chased down the target with ten balls to spare, reaching 178/4 in 18.2 overs. It was their most complete performance up to that point.
Match 15: Lost to Texas Super Kings by 52 runs
Facing TSK for the second time, LAKR conceded 196/8 and could only manage 144/7. The defeat underlined their inability to contain opposition batting line-ups.
Match 17: Lost to Washington Freedom by five wickets
One of LAKR's best batting performances came when they posted 213/4. However, Washington Freedom chased down the target in the final over, reaching 214/5 and denying LAKR what would have been a morale-boosting win.
Match 20: Lost to Seattle Orcas by five wickets
LAKR again crossed 200, making 202/4, but their bowlers failed to close out the game. Seattle reached 206/5 with one ball remaining, handing LAKR another painful defeat.
Match 24: Lost to MI New York by eight wickets
Batting first, LAKR made 154/8, which proved insufficient. MI New York cruised to 155/2 in 17.5 overs, leaving LAKR staring at elimination.
Match 27: Lost to MI New York by six runs
In a low-scoring encounter, MI New York managed 142/9. LAKR looked favourites for long periods but finished on 136/4, falling agonisingly short and suffering another close defeat.
Match 30: Beat San Francisco Unicorns by 11 runs
LAKR saved their best for last. In a rain-reduced 19-over contest, they blasted 243/3 before San Francisco were set a DLS target of 245. Despite the Unicorns' aggressive chase, they were bowled out for 233 in 18.5 overs, allowing LAKR to finish the season with a memorable victory.

Season Verdict
The 2025 campaign was another frustrating one for Los Angeles Knight Riders. While the batting unit frequently posted competitive totals and enjoyed standout contributions from Andre Fletcher and Unmukt Chand, the bowling attack struggled to defend scores consistently. Six defeats came after either posting or chasing competitive totals, highlighting the team's inability to close out matches.
Yet, the final-game victory over San Francisco Unicorns showed the attacking potential within the squad. If LAKR can find greater balance with the ball and convert promising positions into wins, they will hope to avoid another bottom-place finish in future seasons.
