Jaipur witnessed thrilling tennis action on Sunday as players battled for spots in the finals at the O N Dixit Memorial ITF World Tennis Masters MT-400 tournament. The event, held at the Jai Club, saw intense matches across various age categories.
Men's 70 Years Age Group Semi-Finals
Dilip Shivpuri secured his place in the final with a hard-fought victory. He defeated Rajendra Singh in a three-set thriller. The scores were 2-6, 6-4, and 10-8 in the tie-breaker.
In the other semi-final, VS Singh Negi displayed dominant form. He outclassed Jagat Singh Rathore with a straight-sets win. Negi took the match 6-1, 6-4 to book his final berth.
Men's 55 Years Age Section Quarter-Finalists
Tikam Singh Panwar made a strong statement in the men's 55 years category. He downed Jaiprakash Nishad 6-0, 7-6, with a 10-5 tie-break in the second set. This victory secured his quarter-final spot.
Several other players joined Panwar in the last eight. Ashutosh Avinash Pednekar beat Bharat Singh 6-4, 6-4. Srinivas Reddy Gunnala trounced Yogesh Kohli 6-4, 6-2. Bal Kishan Bhatia got the better of Anand Murthy 6-3, 6-0.
Pre-Quarterfinal Action in 65 Years Section
Dilip Singh Nongmaithem advanced to the quarter-finals with a comeback win. He dismissed Pawan Jain 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 in the tie-breaker.
Lalit Sharma accounted for Naresh Rajora with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-0 victory. Boyan Gorenc from Slovenia thumped Surender Pal Singh 6-0, 6-1. Ajit Bhardwaj prevailed over Sandeep Nijhawan 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the last eight spots.
Men's 75 Years Age Group Semi-Finals
Rajendra Goyal made light work of his opponent to reach the final. He defeated Mukesh Bajaj 6-2, 6-3 in a straightforward match.
Dhawal Patel rallied back from a set down to beat Ashok Jindal. The scores were 2-6, 6-3, and 10-4 in the tie-breaker.
Tournament Inauguration
Awadhesh Kumar, principal director of Investigation Income Tax and a national tennis player, graced the event as chief guest. He formally inaugurated the tournament, adding prestige to the occasion.
