Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open with a convincing 6-2, 7-5 victory over Britain's Cameron Norrie on Tuesday. The 22-year-old Sinner, who is seeded second in the tournament, displayed exceptional form on the clay courts, breaking Norrie's serve early in the first set and maintaining pressure throughout the match.
Dominant First Set
Sinner started strong, winning the first set in just 32 minutes. He broke Norrie's serve twice and hit 12 winners to take the set 6-2. The Italian's powerful groundstrokes and precise shot placement kept Norrie on the defensive.
Second Set Battle
The second set proved more competitive, with both players holding serve until the 11th game. Sinner finally broke Norrie's serve to go up 6-5, then served out the match to love, sealing the victory in one hour and 24 minutes. Sinner saved all three break points he faced in the match.
Looking Ahead
With this win, Sinner improves his record to 3-1 against Norrie. He will next face the winner of the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jakub Mensik. Sinner is aiming for his third title of the year after winning the Australian Open and the Rotterdam Open.
Norrie, ranked 31st, fought hard but could not match Sinner's consistency and power. The British player had his chances in the second set but failed to convert key points.
