Venus Williams Weds Andrea Preti, Reveals Adenomyoma Diagnosis Brought Them Closer
Venus Williams Marries Andrea Preti, Shares Health Struggle

Tennis superstar Venus Williams has officially tied the knot with Italian actor Andrea Preti in a beautiful, week-long celebration in Palm Beach, Florida. The couple, who had an Italian celebration in September 2025, exchanged vows surrounded by close friends and family.

A Tale of Two Wedding Looks

In an exclusive feature with Vogue magazine, the seven-time Grand Slam champion detailed her wedding fashion. For the courthouse legal ceremony, she chose a chic and classic short skirt and top ensemble from the brand Morilee New York, completing the look with stylish headgear.

However, the showstopper was her main wedding gown. For this, Venus Williams wore a breathtaking corseted fishtail dress designed by Georges Hobeika. The gown was paired with an elaborate lace veil. Her jewellery was elegantly minimal—a slim diamond-studded choker and dainty earrings. Her makeup was subtle, resulting in a look that was both chic and profoundly elegant.

The Health Battle That Forged a Stronger Bond

Beyond the glamour, Williams courageously shared a deeply personal health struggle that defined the early days of her relationship with Preti. She revealed that in 2024, she was diagnosed with adenomyoma, a condition she described as harrowing.

"I was so down. I just felt so overwhelmed," Williams recalled of that difficult period. She credited Andrea Preti for stepping up unexpectedly early in their relationship. "It was so early in our relationship, but we were going through a lot, and he supported me," she said. Preti took charge, helping connect her with health experts in Italy.

Williams disclosed that she had surgery just a month after she and Andrea met. She also shared that she had frozen her eggs some time ago. The athlete had previously opened up about her ordeal on Instagram four months prior, stating she was misdiagnosed and suffered for "years and years."

"I suffered from severe anemia, debilitating pain, excessive bleeding and abnormally frequent menstrual cycles for many years. It affected my tennis and the trajectory of my career," she had written, emphasising the critical importance of advocating for one's own health.

Understanding Adenomyoma: Expert Insights

What exactly is the condition Venus Williams battled? Dr. N Sapna Lulla, Lead Consultant – Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, explains that adenomyoma is a form of adenomyosis. In this condition, the inner lining of the uterus grows into the muscle wall, forming a localised mass.

"This condition is not cancer, but it can cause significant discomfort and affect daily life," Dr. Lulla stated. Common symptoms include heavy or prolonged periods, severe menstrual cramps, pelvic pain, bloating, and pain during intercourse. The condition can also impact fertility.

Dr. D. Sandhya Rani, Lead Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at KIMS Hospitals Bengaluru, added that adenomyomas are often misdiagnosed because their symptoms mirror those of fibroids and endometriosis. She urged women not to dismiss progressively worsening pain as routine menstrual discomfort.

Treatment varies based on severity, age, and fertility goals. Mild cases may be managed with painkillers and hormonal medications. More severe cases, like Williams', may require surgery, which could involve removal of the adenomyoma or, in extreme cases where childbearing is complete, a hysterectomy.

The journey through diagnosis and surgery was challenging, but Venus Williams emerged with a supportive husband by her side and a powerful message about health awareness for women worldwide.
