The SM Krishna tennis stadium in Bengaluru is currently the epicentre of a massive tennis frenzy. The opening two days of the World Tennis League have set the city alight, delivering a spectacular cocktail of world-class athleticism and celebrity glamour, leaving fans thoroughly entertained.
Star-Studded Action on Court and in Stands
The energy has been nothing short of explosive. Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios and French showman Gael Monfils captivated the audience with their powerful and entertaining style of play. The glitterati added to the spectacle, with Bollywood actors Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday in attendance, alongside cricketing stars like Shreyas Iyer and the legendary Kapil Dev.
Interestingly, on Thursday, the 30-year-old Kyrgios received an even louder ovation from the crowd than cricketer Shreyas Iyer, underlining that while celebrities were a draw, the tennis players remained the primary attraction for the passionate spectators.
Fans Flock from Across India for Live Tennis Experience
The event has drawn enthusiasts from various corners of the country, eager to experience high-quality ATP and WTA action without travelling overseas. One such fan, Vijay Suryakiran, a paediatrician from Shivamogga, made the journey specifically to watch his favourites. "I primarily came to watch Kyrgios, Monfils and Daniil Medvedev; they are the big names of the sport," he said. "Watching them live and up close is a different experience altogether."
He emphasised the rarity of the event, stating, "Otherwise, if we want to watch them play, we have to go outside India. Since they are playing in Bengaluru, I could not miss this opportunity." He also brought his son along to inspire him to take up the sport.
Thrilling Matches Under the Lights
The massive crowds have not been disappointed. As matches commenced at 3 pm, the stadium filled up, reaching a vibrant peak under the evening lights. World No. 25 Paula Badosa of Spain showcased a powerful display of groundstrokes to defeat Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk, creating several thrilling moments for the audience.
Indian talents also seized their moment in the spotlight. Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh made their presence strongly felt, challenging the established international stars and earning the admiration of the home crowd. The World Tennis League in Bengaluru has successfully fused global tennis excellence with local passion, creating an unforgettable spectacle.
