Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The city police on Wednesday recovered a total of 157 stolen or lost mobile phones, stolen between February and April, and handed them over to their rightful owners.
“The total cost of the recovered mobile phones stands at Rs39 lakh,” inspector Somnath Jadhav from the cyber cell police said.
“Technical expertise and investigation was used to trace the stolen or lost mobiles. The devices were recovered from multiple states and districts,” he added.
Police said mobile phones are being stolen often in shopping malls, vegetable markets, bus stands, railway stations and other crowded places. “Such places have become vulnerable points. As soon as the complaint is received, correspondence is sent to the cyber police station to trace the mobile phone,” Jadhav said.
The operation highlights the effectiveness of cyber cell techniques in tracking stolen devices across state lines. Authorities urge citizens to report thefts promptly and avoid leaving phones unattended in crowded areas.
