In a significant crackdown on banned substances, the Kumarapalayam police in Namakkal district have confiscated a total of 186 kilograms of prohibited gutkha products. The operation, conducted near the Kallangattu Valasu bus stop, led to the arrest of one individual.
Details of the Raid
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector M Gautham carried out a raid at a local shop on Tuesday night. During the inspection, officers discovered 84 kilograms of gutkha stored in sacks within the premises.
While the search was ongoing, two men arrived at the location in a car. Upon noticing the police presence, they fled the scene. The police team then examined the vehicle and found an additional 102 kilograms of gutkha packets inside it.
Arrest and Investigation
T Dharmaraj, a 53-year-old man who was present at the shop at the time of the raid, was taken into custody. During questioning, he revealed that the two individuals who escaped were his brother, Prabhakaran from V Mettur, and Ravindran from Kalingarayanpalayam. Both are now wanted by the police.
The seized gutkha and the car were produced before the Kumarapalayam judicial magistrate court. Dharmaraj has been remanded in judicial custody as investigations continue.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the sale and distribution of banned products in the region.
