Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch its first foldable iPhone, tentatively named the iPhone Fold, in 2026. According to recent leaks and industry analysts, the device will feature a 7.6-inch flexible OLED inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. The iPhone Fold is expected to be powered by the A19 Bionic chip, coupled with 8GB of RAM and storage options starting at 256GB.
Design and Display
The foldable iPhone is said to adopt a book-like design with a hinge mechanism that allows the device to fold flat. The inner display will support a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, while the outer display will be a standard 60Hz panel. Apple is rumored to use a ceramic shield cover for durability and a stainless steel frame.
Camera System
The iPhone Fold is expected to feature a triple-camera setup on the rear, including a 48MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The front-facing camera will be a 12MP sensor housed in a punch-hole cutout on the inner display.
Battery and Charging
Leaks suggest a 4,500mAh battery with support for 35W wired fast charging and 15W MagSafe wireless charging. The device is also expected to support reverse wireless charging for accessories like AirPods.
Software and Features
The iPhone Fold will run iOS 20, optimized for foldable screens with multitasking capabilities such as split-screen and drag-and-drop. It may also include Apple Pencil support for the inner display.
Pricing and Availability
Analysts predict the iPhone Fold will start at $1,999, making it Apple's most expensive iPhone to date. The launch is expected in September 2026, with pre-orders beginning a week earlier.
While Apple has not officially confirmed the device, the leaks align with the company's patent filings and growing interest in the foldable market. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the launch date.
