Cabinet Approves Two New Semiconductor Units Worth Rs 3,936 Cr

The Union Cabinet has approved two new semiconductor manufacturing units with a combined investment of over Rs 3,936 crore under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The projects include the country's first commercial mini/micro-LED display facility based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology and a semiconductor packaging unit, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Facilities in Gujarat

The facilities will be set up in Gujarat and are expected to generate employment for around 2,230 skilled professionals. Crystal Matrix Limited will establish an integrated facility for compound semiconductor fabrication and assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP) in Dholera for manufacturing mini/micro-LED display modules. Suchi Semicon Private Limited will set up an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Surat to manufacture discrete semiconductor components.

Boost to Semiconductor Ecosystem

With these approvals, the total number of projects cleared under the India Semiconductor Mission rises to 12, with cumulative investments of about Rs 1.64 lakh crore, the government said. The move is expected to strengthen India's semiconductor ecosystem and advance domestic manufacturing capabilities in high-technology segments.
