Kolkata: In a significant move, Calcutta University will now allow undergraduate (UG) students to write their minor papers at their respective home centres, instead of travelling to other colleges as was previously required. The Controller of Examinations issued a notice on Friday, which has been sent to all college principals.
Long-Standing Demand Addressed
This decision comes as a response to a long-standing demand from college principals, who had pointed out that the earlier practice was causing disruptions to classes for students of other semesters. The notice highlighted that several colleges affiliated with Calcutta University operate multiple shifts or units. These institutions were previously asked to accommodate students together in the day shift to ensure smooth conduct of examinations.
Benefits of the New Arrangement
The notice stated, "This arrangement will not only reduce the length of the examination schedule but also help optimise cost and manpower, while maintaining uniformity in the overall process." Many principals have welcomed the move, saying it will help reduce learning losses by allowing the maximum number of classes to be held each semester. The streamlined process is expected to benefit both students and administrative staff.
