Canva Adds 'English (Chronically Online)' with Internet Slang

Canva Introduces 'English (Chronically Online)' Language Option Inspired by Internet Slang

In a bold move to connect with the digital-native generation, Canva has officially launched a new language option called 'English (chronically online)'. This innovative feature, announced on January 22, 2026, replaces the standard interface text across the popular design platform with vocabulary inspired by internet slang and Gen Z culture. The update aims to make the user experience more relatable and creative for a global audience.

Transforming the User Interface with Internet Vocabulary

According to a press release from the company, this fully functional language setting transforms every button, tooltip, and AI chat into internet-native terms. Canva users worldwide have been interacting with its AI features using phrases like "main character energy", and the company believes this shift will foster enhanced creativity. Over the past year, search trends have shown a significant surge in demand for slang terms such as "slay", "rizz", and "spill the tea", with increases of 98%, 88%, and 47% respectively.

New Features and Accessibility

Alongside the redesigned interface, Canva has introduced a collection of "extremely online templates" that include fun easter eggs for users to discover. Importantly, this new language option is available to both free and paid users, ensuring broad accessibility. To enable 'English (chronically online)', users simply need to navigate to Settings in Canva, locate the Language section, and select the new option.

Context and Previous Updates

This launch follows Canva's ongoing efforts to innovate with AI tools. In April of the previous year, the company rolled out its first voice-enabled AI coding tool and an AI-powered spreadsheet generator as part of the Visual Suite 2.0 update. By integrating internet slang into its platform, Canva continues to adapt to evolving digital communication trends, positioning itself as a forward-thinking tool for modern creators.
