CBSE Compartment Exam Delay Sparks Anxiety Among Students and Schools
CBSE Compartment Exam Delay Sparks Anxiety

Bengaluru: While the chaos surrounding CBSE's revaluation results continues, another group of students is facing uncertainty—those placed in the compartment category. CBSE has yet to open the portal for students who failed to pass the exam to apply for the compartment examination. The usual process requires students to apply through their schools, which then upload the names and submit applications. However, schools have not received any communication regarding this.

School Principals Express Concern

“We have four students in compartment. The parents and students are getting anxious as the days pass. They now fear that a second exam might not happen. What do we tell them? We have no information about it,” said a school principal.

Another principal added, “This time, the number of students in compartment is higher due to a drop in the pass percentage. These students have been inquiring about the compartment exam. Usually, such students at least have a chance to get into the second cycle of admissions if they clear the papers. But with the delay, even that seems distant.”

Call for Timely Updates

Sandeep M Pai, chairman of Bengaluru Sahodaya, stated, “Many students are hoping to clear the exam by July and move on to the next phase. It would have been ideal if CBSE could at least provide an update on when they can expect the next steps.”

Another principal remarked, “There is also no news about the second exam for class 10 or the revaluation marks for class 12. CBSE is losing its credibility. We had a parents' orientation recently, and they were questioning us about these issues.”

CBSE Official Response

A CBSE official said they will share an update soon and advised students to check the website for updates.

Scope of the Issue

Students placed in compartment are those who failed to achieve the pass mark or were absent for exams. In the Bengaluru region alone, there are 1,025 such students. The highest number of compartment students is in Prayagraj (20,841), followed by Noida (15,043), Patna (13,368), Dehradun (12,191), and Lucknow (10,339). According to a CBSE press release, there are over 1.6 lakh students in compartment across India.
