B L Mungekar, former Rajya Sabha member and educationist, emphasised that entrepreneurship development deserves special emphasis in higher education. Delivering the convocation address at Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics (BASE) University in Bengaluru on Monday, he advised that a country producing millions of graduates cannot rely only on placement-led success models.
Call for Entrepreneurial Focus
Mungekar highlighted the need to shift from traditional job-seeking mindsets to job-creating attitudes. He argued that universities must integrate entrepreneurship into their curricula to prepare students for self-reliance and innovation. This approach, he said, would address unemployment and foster economic growth.
Role of Higher Education
He urged institutions to create ecosystems that support startups and entrepreneurial ventures. According to Mungekar, higher education should not merely focus on producing employees but should nurture leaders who can generate employment opportunities for others.
The convocation ceremony marked the graduation of students from various programmes. Mungekar's remarks come at a time when India faces challenges in absorbing its large graduate workforce into formal employment sectors.
