Gadget thefts are on the rise in paying guest (PG) accommodations in Bengaluru, even though many of these facilities are equipped with CCTV cameras. The latest incident occurred on June 9 at CM Luxury PG in HSR Layout, where burglars made off with mobile phones, laptops, and cash.
Incident Details
According to police reports, the burglars entered the PG premises during the night and targeted multiple rooms while residents were asleep. The stolen items include several high-end smartphones, laptops, and a significant amount of cash. The CCTV footage from the building is being examined to identify the suspects.
Rising Trend
This incident is part of a broader trend of increasing thefts in PG accommodations across Bengaluru. Despite the presence of security cameras, many PG owners struggle to ensure round-the-clock monitoring. Residents often feel a false sense of security, leaving their valuables unattended.
Police have advised PG residents to secure their belongings and report any suspicious activity immediately. They also recommend that PG owners invest in better security measures, including alarm systems and regular patrols.
The rise in such thefts has prompted discussions among PG associations about implementing stricter access controls and background checks for visitors. Some PGs are also considering installing additional cameras in common areas and entrances.
Authorities urge victims to file complaints promptly to help track stolen gadgets through their unique identifiers. The Bengaluru police have formed special teams to investigate these cases and curb the growing menace.
