IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti has announced that the institute is probing the CBSE's Online System for Marks (OSM) row by concentrating on systemic flaws rather than engaging in firefighting. Speaking to the media, Kamakoti revealed that a four-member expert team has been deployed to conduct a comprehensive audit of the CBSE revaluation portal, following widespread complaints from students regarding discrepancies in marks.
Focus on Root Causes
Kamakoti emphasized that the investigation is not about temporary fixes but about understanding what went wrong at a fundamental level. 'We are focusing on what went wrong, not firefighting. Our goal is to identify the root causes and ensure such issues do not recur,' he stated. The expert team includes specialists in software engineering, data analytics, and cybersecurity from IIT Madras.
Student Complaints Trigger Probe
The move comes after numerous students reported anomalies in their revaluation results through the CBSE portal. Many alleged that the system failed to process their applications correctly or displayed incorrect marks. The CBSE had sought IIT Madras's assistance to address these technical glitches and restore trust in the examination process.
The audit will cover the entire workflow of the revaluation portal, including application submission, fee payment, result processing, and communication. The team will also review the underlying code and database integrity to detect any vulnerabilities or errors.
Timeline and Next Steps
Kamakoti assured that the audit would be completed within a few weeks, after which a detailed report will be submitted to the CBSE. 'We are working round the clock to ensure a thorough analysis. Transparency and accuracy are our top priorities,' he added. The IIT Madras director also hinted at possible recommendations for system upgrades and better quality assurance protocols.
This development marks a significant step in addressing the concerns of students who have been affected by the OSM glitches. With IIT Madras's expertise, the CBSE aims to implement robust solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
