Instagram Launches TV App for Amazon Fire TV: Reels Go Big Screen
Instagram TV App for Fire TV Brings Reels to Your Living Room

Meta is taking a significant step to transform how we consume social media by moving it from our palms to our living rooms. The company has launched a dedicated Instagram for TV app for Amazon Fire TV devices, marking the first time Instagram Reels are officially available on television screens. This test, currently limited to the U.S., aims to turn the typically solitary act of scrolling into a shared, group-friendly viewing experience.

What Does the Instagram TV App Offer?

The newly introduced app is specifically designed for the television interface, moving away from the endless vertical scroll familiar on phones. Instead, Reels are organized into interest-based channels like music, sports highlights, travel discoveries, and trending moments. Selecting a channel starts an automatic playback of videos with full sound, creating an experience akin to channel surfing rather than traditional social media browsing.

A key feature catering to families is the support for up to five different Instagram accounts on a single device. This allows each member to switch to their profile and receive personalized recommendations. Users can browse creators, view profiles, read comments, and like Reels—all through a TV-optimized interface. While the Reels retain their vertical format, they are now optimized for large-screen, relaxed viewing.

How to Set Up Instagram on Your Fire TV

Getting started is a straightforward process for eligible users. The Instagram for TV app must be downloaded from the Amazon Appstore. It is compatible with a range of supported Fire TV devices, including:

  • Fire TV Stick HD
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max (both generations)
  • Fire TV 2-Series
  • Fire TV 4-Series
  • Fire TV Omni QLED Series

After installation, users can sign in directly with their Instagram credentials. Alternatively, access can be set up via the "Settings and Activity" menu within the mobile Instagram app. There is also an option to create a separate Instagram account exclusively for TV viewing.

Safety and Future Developments

Understanding that the TV is often a shared family space, Meta has applied PG-13 content standards to the TV app, consistent with its mobile application. Safety policies for teen accounts, including content controls, usage limits, and screen time reminders, remain in effect.

While the current version is heavily focused on Reels, Meta has indicated that more features are in the pipeline. Future updates may include using your smartphone as a remote control, shared feeds for friends, improved discovery tools, and simpler ways to follow favourite creators. Announced on 19 December 2025, this launch signals a clear strategic shift: social media is evolving from something you scroll alone to content you can watch and enjoy together.
