The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) has rolled out QR-based payment systems on its buses across Hubballi, marking a significant step towards digital transactions in public transport. The initiative, announced on May 18, 2026, allows passengers to pay fares using QR codes via mobile wallets or UPI apps, eliminating the need for cash.
Details of the Rollout
The QR-based payment system has been implemented on all KKRTC buses operating within Hubballi. Passengers can scan the QR code displayed inside the bus using their smartphones and complete the payment instantly. The system is designed to reduce the hassle of carrying change and speed up boarding.
Benefits for Commuters
This move is expected to benefit daily commuters by offering a contactless and efficient payment method. It also aligns with the government's push for a digital economy. KKRTC officials stated that the system will be gradually extended to other cities in the state.
