Lucknow: The fees for applying in general postgraduate (PG) courses at Lucknow University (LU) have been increased by 50 percent, while application fees for professional courses have witnessed a hike of 25 percent. The online registration through the Samarth Portal for admissions in the 2026-27 session was opened on Monday.
Fee Hike Details for General PG Courses
For general postgraduate programmes, including LLM and LLB, the application fee for General/OBC/EWS candidates has been raised from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. For the SC/ST/PwBD categories, the fee hike is from Rs 500 to Rs 750.
Fee Hike for Professional PG Programmes
For professional PG programmes such as MBA, MBA (Tourism & Hospitality), MTech, MPharm, MEd, BPEd and MPEd, the application fee for General/OBC/EWS candidates has been increased from Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,000, while for SC/ST/PwBD it has gone up from Rs 800 to Rs 1,000. Candidates will also have to pay Rs 100 registration fee in addition to the application charges.
LU admission coordinator Anitya Gaurav said, “LU has revised PG admission application fees after 20 years to align with the present financial and academic requirements.”
Course Fee Hikes
Meanwhile, fees of some courses have also been increased by 20 percent to 85 percent. For MA Journalism and Mass Communication, the fees have gone up from Rs 28,080 per semester to Rs 40,630 per semester, a hike of around 44 percent. While fees of MA Jyotir Vigyan have been hiked from Rs 11,080 per semester to Rs 15,080 (36 percent increase), MCom Commerce from Rs 15,080 per semester to Rs 25,830 (70 percent hike), MSc Biochemistry from Rs 49,522 to Rs 60,100 (21 percent increase) and MSc Biotechnology from Rs 35,000 to Rs 65,050 (85 percent hike).
The university also hiked undergraduate application fees and revised charges for self-financed courses earlier this month, citing financial constraints. Officials said the fee hike has been done to meet the budget deficit of Rs 67 crore and to maintain rising expenditure of academic quality.
