Lucknow University's Department of Ancient Indian History and Archaeology (AIHA) is set to introduce a one-year diploma course in tourism, starting from the 2026–27 academic session. The course will be open to postgraduates in history or other subjects, aiming to blend travel skills with historical expertise.
Course Details and Objectives
The diploma program is designed to meet industry requirements and prepare students for careers in heritage tourism. According to Prof Durgesh Srivastava, "A diploma in tourism from an AIHA department combines travel skills with historical knowledge. It will prepare students for roles such as heritage site managers, cultural tour operators and certified guides."
Career Opportunities
Department teachers highlighted that the course will offer various opportunities, including working as a heritage tour guide and designing tour itineraries for travel agencies. The curriculum is tailored to equip students with practical skills needed in the tourism sector.
