A 33-year-old automobile dealer has been arrested by the Goregaon police for pouring petrol on a road and setting it on fire to create a social media reel for his birthday. The police have booked him under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Incident Details

The incident came to the attention of the police through a post on X by journalists late on April 25. The journalists tagged the Mumbai police in their post, which included photos of the incident. Police reached the location shortly after, around 12:05 am, at Ram Mandir Road in Goregaon West.

According to police officials, the act of pouring an inflammable liquid on the road and setting it ablaze posed a considerable risk to the life and safety of others. The fire could have easily spread to nearby vehicles or structures, endangering residents and passersby.

Legal Action

An FIR was subsequently registered by the Goregaon police. The accused has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering public safety. Police are investigating further to determine if the accused had any prior intent to cause harm or if this was purely a reckless act for social media attention.
